CBD Oil Smoothies That You Definitely Need To Try

26th July 2021

Smoothie bowl season is well and truly upon us. Smoothies and smoothie bowls are staples of our summertime diets because they’re just so easy to make. They’re packed with nutrients to keep us healthy, and they’re super tasty. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can whip up CBD oil smoothies in the blink of an eye! Meaning you can get your daily dose, whilst boosting your vitamin intake – what’s not to love?

What Is a CBD Smoothie?

A smoothie is simply a drink that is made by blending a range of fruits and vegetables until smooth. Some people like to add nuts, seeds, and supplement powders to their smoothies. A CBD oil smoothie is exactly the same as a regular, smoothie, just with some CBD added to it. The easiest way to do this is by adding water-soluble CBD powder to the mix or dropping a couple of drops of your favourite tincture into the blender.

Whether you’re a fan of a very berry smoothie bowl, or something a little greener, smoothies are the perfect no-fuss way of getting most of your 5-a-day. They’re also a super handy way of boosting your iron and protein intake if you’re vegan.

Fruits and vegetables are full of antioxidants as well as vitamins and minerals that we need to keep our bodies running smoothly. For example, citrus fruits are high in vitamin C, which supports our immune system. Berries like blueberries are also high in antioxidants, which help to protect us against free radicals.

Smoothie bowls are the ideal opportunity to get a protein and iron boost too. If you’re vegan, you’re probably sick of hearing the classic “where do you get your protein from?”. But did you know that most people probably aren’t getting enough protein, even if they do eat meat and dairy? The average adult needs two generous portions (45 g to 55 g) of meat, fish, nuts, or tofu per day! Of course, this will differ depending on your height, weight, body type, and how active you are.

Simply chuck in a few extra handfuls of kale or spinach to up your iron intake, or include a scoop or two of your favourite protein powder. Although dark leafy greens may change the colour of your smoothie, they are unlikely to change the taste or texture. Protein powder can be also beneficial for thickening up your smoothies, whilst also adding a little extra flavour (if you want it).

CBD in Smoothies, the Benefits

Now that we’re on all the same page with the benefits of smoothies, are there any added benefits of CBD oil smoothies? Of course! As well as getting all of the benefits of fruits and veggies, you’re getting all of the potential benefits associated with CBD too.

Experts believe that CBD interacts with a system in our bodies, known as the endocannabinoid system. Research shows that this system is largely responsible for keeping our bodies running smoothly. For example, the ECS plays a vital role in determining our appetite, sleep cycles, immune response, and pain perception.

It is for this reason that many people like adding it to their daily lives, as they feel that it helps them maintain overall health and wellness. Lots of other people choose to take CBD because they feel that it helps manage pain, feelings of stress or worry, as well as helping reduce swelling and discomfort after exercising or injury.

How To Make a CBD Smoothie Bowl

Want to spice up your morning smoothie bowl but need a little inspiration? That is what we are here for! We have compiled a list of our favourite CBD oil smoothies and smoothie bowls for you to try out. Each recipe is exceptionally easy to make and fully customisable.

To make our CBD oil smoothies, we just pop all of our ingredients into the blender but you can use a NutriBullet, if you have one. Can you put CBD oil in a smoothie? Absolutely! You can pop a couple of drops of your favourite CBD tincture (we love this berry flavoured one) into your smoothie before you blend it. Alternatively, you can add CBD-infused protein powder, like this one.

Without further ado, introducing our 4 CBD oil smoothies that you didn’t know you needed in your life.

1. The Orange-inal: Vitamin C CBD Oil Smoothies

As we know citrus fruits are packed with vitamin C goodness. But did you know that mangoes and carrots are also excellent sources of vitamin C too? This particular vitamin, also known as ascorbic acid, is only needed for our immune systems, but they’re also essential for maintaining healthy skin, bones, and teeth.

Whilst it helps with the formation of collagen (which helps our skin to feel and look healthy), it also helps us absorb iron from our food.

For our vitamin C CBD oil smoothies, we use:

  • 1 large orange, peeled
  • 1 cup of frozen mango chunks
  • ½ cup shredded carrot
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • A pinch of fresh ground turmeric (optional)
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 scoop of CBD plant protein powder or 1 dropper of CBD oil

Once all of your ingredients are in the blender, simply blend until smooth. You can pop CBD oil smoothies into a tall glass, to sip away throughout your morning. Or you can pour them into a bowl, to enjoy as your breakfast or lunch.

If you’re opting for a smoothie bowl, keep some fresh strawberries and mango chunks to the side, before you blend everything up. You can add these as toppings to your smoothie bowl.

Thinly slice the strawberries and place them along the edge of your bowl, with some mango chunks next to them. If you really want to jazz it up, you can sprinkle some hemp seeds or flax seeds on top too!

2. Lean Green CBD Oil Smoothies

Let’s face it, we’re all a bit rubbish at getting our greens from time to time. That’s why sticking them into a smoothie and drinking them is sometimes the easiest option. This is especially true if you’re not too fond of the taste of dark leafy greens. By popping them in a CBD oil smoothie, you can hide the taste with the other flavoursome ingredients!

You will need:

  • 1 medium banana (the riper the better, as it adds sweetness to the smoothie).
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ¾ cup of plain, unsweetened soy milk (or the plant milk of your choice)
  • 1 cup dark, leafy greens, i.e. kale, spinach, chard (make sure they’re packed in tightly)
  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 dropper of your favourite CBD oil

Keep about ¼ of your banana to the side with some of your hemp seeds, you’ll need them for decoration. When your ingredients are measured, you can pop them all into the blender and blend until smooth.

When your CBD oil smoothie is ready, you can pour it into a bowl and get creative with the presentation. Enjoy!

3. Black Forest Gateau CBD Oil Smoothies

Although we have used only healthy, natural ingredients, flavour-wise it might be a bit decadent for your first meal of the day. You might prefer it as a lunchtime treat or an after-dinner pudding. However, if you choose to treat yourself to an indulgent birthday breakfast smoothie bowl, we totally support your decision!

For our lip-smacking CBD oil smoothies, you will need:

  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed
  • 2 cups of frozen cherries
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder/chocolate flavoured protein powder
  • 1 dropper of your favourite CBD oil (you won’t need this if you’re using CBD-infused protein powder)

You have probably gotten the drift by now. Simply chuck your ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. If you want to add a little something extra, you can also add some chocolate chips. Blend the rest of the ingredients first, then add the choc chips. Pulse the blender once or twice to mix them in. Et voilà!

If you’re serving these CBD oil smoothies as a smoothie bowl or dessert, we recommend serving in a wide glass jar. Top with shredded coconut, chocolate chips, flax seeds, and a frozen cherry for a little extra pizzazz!

4. Don’t Sweet The Small Stuff CBD Oil Smoothies

If you have a sweet tooth, this is the CBD oil smoothie for you! This one is packed full of delicious berries, making it perfect for when you need a little pick-me-up.

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp honey or agave syrup
  • 1 ½ cup frozen strawberries
  • A scoop of CBD-infused protein powder (or 1 dropper of CBD oil)
  • 1 ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 ½ cup unsweetened plant milk
  • ½ ripe banana

Before popping your fruit into the blender, keep some frozen berries aside to use as toppings. Blend all of the ingredients together until smooth, and serve in a tall glass or bowl. Use some of the frozen berries to decorate the top.

This recipe is super customisable as you can substitute in whatever berries you have handy. It’s also a very handy one to have in your arsenal, as frozen berries are much cheaper than fresh fruit. If the fruit is frozen when they’re fresh, you’re not missing out on any of the nutritional benefits, and they’re perfect to have in the freezer, for backup!
