Exploring far-flung, exotic locales or discovering urban paragons, we’re avid travellers at Candid, and it’s not just about staying somewhere extraordinary, it’s about getting a bonus for doing so. We’re talking about loyalty rewards – those accumulative points that can be exchanged for even more travel, shopping, technology, dining, music, cinematic excursions and so much more. We recently signed up to Marriott Rewards. It was completely free to do and now, when we’re in Paris, New York, Milan, Vancouver or another city that plays home to one of Marriott’s seventeen brands, we get more than just a divine hotel experience; there are literally more than 250 ways to use your points, and with over 4,200 hotels in eighty-seven countries, we’ll never stop earning while sleeping, so to speak.

On the Marriott Mobile App, we’ve tapped in our preferences: late check-out, feather pillows, extra large towels, corner rooms with a view…and those preferences are logged in and remembered in perpetuity, so no matter where we go, they know how we like it. Also on the app, there’s a simple check-in process, which is incredibly useful if you travel as much as we do for photo shoots, interviews, literary festivals and fashion weeks. A notification comes through when our room is ready and, if in a rush, we can check-in and out using our smartphones. The best thing about the app could possibly be the ability to text service requests like room service. We love the fact that we can have breakfast in bed and don’t even have to get out of bed to make it happen.
Here are some of our favourite stops on the Marriott European circuit:
Barcelona – Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection
After a full day of taking in Gaudí, gorging on tapas and examining Picasso, the Cotton House Hotel from the Autograph Collection is an oasis in a 19th-century neoclassical refurb. We could spend hours in the Library and even sneak in a full English tea.

The Cotton House bedrooms are calming and serene, with ample crisp, white cotton, juxtaposing exquisite comfort with natural textures.

Zurich – Kameha Grand, Autograph Collection
Featured in Candid Magazine’s Issue 11, the Kameha Grand is a modern, architectural wonder enhanced by exceptional service. Design and experience are at the forefront and our favourite room is the Space Suite.

Venice – JW Marriot Venice Resort & Spa
Located on a private island, this is a true Venetian escape. Buildings renovated from the 1920s and 1930s house the five-star spa, multiple restaurants and the spacious rooms and suites, which entice from both their inside and outside spaces.

Bar at Dopolavora Dining Room, JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa
The Michelin Star Dopolavoro Dining Room is a must-visit and aside from the delicious flavours crafted from celebrated chef, Giancarlo Perbellini, an aperitif in the exquisitely designed bar is the perfect start to a magical night in Venice.
