The Autumn/Winter 2019 collection from Stella McCartney collides heritage with the bold and psychedelic.
We've seen a lot of suits and more preppy takes on the AW19 catwalks this season and here British classicism is modernised for the Stella man, fused with pop prints and vivid colour.
Drawing personal inspiration from Stella's childhood and the iconic Beatles film ‘Yellow Submarine', a palette of traditional camels and greys is energised with splashes of nautical yellow and London Red. This cinematic theme – titled All Together Now – continues throughout the collection, as iconic moments are depicted across shirting and outerwear.
A digitally printed organic cotton poplin shirt features a landscape scene from Pepperland, while a coach jacket is brought to life with intricate embroidery depicting the caricatured band.
This theme is distilled and reinterpreted to become utilitarian with nautical nods. Sailor stripes in yellow and black add impact to a mock neck sweater and sit alongside black and white stripes on recycled cotton.
A clash of contrasting influences is epitomised as smart trousers are tucked into statement workwear boots and classic marl knitwear is destroyed with slashes.
All of these are examples of how Stella McCartney brings a modern and nostalgic touch into a sophisticated look updating British classics.
The uniforms cut boldly through checked trousers and wool coats. Standout moments continue with a quintessentially Stella full-length camel coat and trousers modernised with Flurp Loop sneakers.
Fur free fur becomes a luxuriously soft coat and adds to Stella's ongoing commitment to sustainability. Organic cotton jersey, denim and cashmere feature throughout.
With the introduction of recycled cotton the house works toward a more sustainable future, which has become a must in today's way of thinking.
