Already a Grammy award winning vocalist and having worked with some of the most impressive and in-demand producers of the moment, it would be hard for this singer/songwriter to produce a track that isn’t attention worthy. Fortunately enough for Polina, the same can be applied to her newest offering, Little Babylon, a pop infused EDM tune that has something for everyone.
Russian-born Polina was classically trained from a young age but as she got older became involved in the blossoming electronic and dance music scene over in Moscow. Now based in LA, she hopes to combine pop sensibilities with her passion for electronic and dance genres. A versatile musician, she shares credits with artists such as Rihanna, Skylar Grey and Kendrick Lamar on the Grammy Award winning Eminem album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 with featured vocals on his song Legacy. She also appears on the No.1, certified gold status EDM anthem Book of Love with genius producer/DJ Felix Jaehn and has writing credits on Sean Kingston’s Sleep All Day, Party by Night. It seems that everything this amazing artist is involved with becomes an instant hit, so there is no doubt her solo exploits will have the same effect.
The single itself is an inexplicably cool, hazy, end of summer record. As most people’s favourite time of year blurs into autumn and the lights starts to fade there is often an influx of these slowed down EDM releases to help listeners relax after a mad season of partying. Little Babylon begins in a Hotel California type vibe with a relaxed guitar riff paired with a jazz infused saxophone. Layered beneath are hints of electronic beats that intensify as the vocals kick in. Polina has a beautiful quality to her vocals, easily comparable to the brilliant Florence and The Machine. Once the chorus hits the EDM inspiration truly comes through to showcase a track that is both uplifting and chilled. It is out now on Ultra Records and is highly worth a listen.
