New Music: Jake Alder

17th June 2016

When it is mid June and the forecast seems to be never ending rain, it is always nice to turn to our favourite artists to help shed those summer blues. In this case, look no further than DJ and producer Jake Alder with his new track Long Lost. The single, featuring soulful songstress Charlotte Turnbull, is an upbeat summery tune which sees influences from tropical house, pop and electronic dance, to create a eclectic mix that instils a yearning for the beach.

Classically trained from the age of ten, Jake comes from a place of experience, and you can see that his strong musical ability has impacted the way the record is produced. From his musical knowledge he has the ability to create material with more depth than similar artists of this nature. He has layered the various instruments in a way in which the listener themselves can take a journey as the piece progresses, moving through the genres and not being given everything in the first few seconds. Initially it is pure electronic dance, with tinny percussion and electronic beats, but then with the introduction of steel drums and cool synths it takes a more tropical house feel. Then, when it is all overlaid by Charlotte’s emotive vocals and pop melodies it takes a more alternative pop route, but somehow it all works well together.  In crossing the genres and styles he has created a track that could be danced to in a club or chilled out to of an evening.

Jake says he takes inspiration from the Norwegian Producer Kygo, and you can definitely hear the influence within Long Lost, but in a way that shows the muse, rather than just being a copycat, which is often common with acts like this. The single will be released on July 1st and be sure to check out Alder’s live debut at The Old Blue Last, London on July 4th. If this offering is anything to go by, he is sure to be making waves as a producer very soon.
