Edinburgh based Emily Atkinson, who goes by the stage moniker EMILIE, brings her take on brooding electro pop with new single Eyes for You, taken from her debut EP I See You in The Darkness. EMILIE tells a beautiful story of limitation and having a defeatist attitude that can seemingly put things out of reach. It immerses listeners in a world of moody, dreamlike synth – one which is undesirable to wake up from.
Emilie has teamed up with producer Mark Morrow to create this wonderfully dark but appetising slice of melodic pop. She has put her all into this project, dedicating her time solely to EMILIE, performing both vocals and synth herself with the help of a producer and drummer for percussion and sampling. On the track her ethereal vocals are cut with cool electro beats, that send a slightly bleak message, yet make the record oddly uplifting. The vocals give her a celestial vibe akin to the likes of London Grammar and Banks, and blend well with the dark soundscape that mixes synths and piano melodies.
With Eyes for You, she has created a unique and intriguing sound washed with moody vibes, pop influences and velvet vocals. It is hard to imagine that this has come from a debut EP, as it is complex and inventive, something expected to come from a much more established and experienced artist. She has spent the past year playing the Scottish live circuit, with support slots for the likes of SG Lewis, but hopes to soon introduce the rest of the UK to her creative sound. Eyes For You is available now as well as her debut EP I See You In The Darkness. Let’s hope that the release puts her firmly in reach for us to hear even more brilliant music from this talented young musician.
