We all know that eating more greens would be better for us. But, still, it can be difficult to work up the motivation.
Obviously, we all know that they’re better for our health than eating cheeseburgers or curries everyday.
Filling your body with greens can keep you operating at your highest level at all times.
In addition to that, fruits and green veggies can boost the health of your hair and skin, too.
Greens can contribute to health right down to the cellular level. By keeping your body balanced you can keep your health at the optimum level.
How can you do this?
The optimum pH level for your blood is between 7.365 and 7.45. The slightest dip on either side can have dangerous consequences for your health.
The standard diet to which, generally speaking, most people ascribe to acidic substances and food. High-acidic diets can lead to gout and kidney stones.
By eating more green foods you can counteract this effect because they function as a natural alkalizer. This is an easy and fast way to get yourself more optimally balanced.
24 Hours of Eating Green
So we decided to try a Green Cleanse – 24 hours of eating only green foods.
Twenty-four hours isn’t a long time to achieve anything major, of course. In fact, there’s no scientific evidence that cleanses and detoxes have any benefit whatsoever.
But it’s nice to give your body a break from time to time.
Here’s a few ways you’ll treat your body with a twenty-four-hour Green Cleanse.
- Kind to Your Gut
Enjoying a twenty-four-hour green cleanse is a great way to reset your body. By eating green you can boost your gut health and feel healthier overall.
Patricia Bannan, MS, RDN, nutrition and healthy cooking expert says that eating green can do wonders for your body.
- Minimise Snacking
We all do it but grazing for snacks throughout the day is a surefire way to an unhealthy body and mind.
To give yourself a reboot, eat green for twenty four hours and stop those cravings with healthy, nourishing food. It may not feel like you’re eating much but you’ll fill up in no time.
- Cutting out Sweeteners
Let’s face it, during this pandemic, who hasn’t been comfort eating with artificially sweetened foods?
These days there are just a lot of added sugars in everything from yogurts, cereals, and granola as well as cookies, chocolates and other baked goods.
Cut out added sweeteners for a day and you’ll feel fresh and relaxed tomorrow.
- Taking a Break From Booze
Thanks to COVID-19, lockdown, and quarantining it has been wine o’clock whenever anyone feels like it for weeks now.
Take a break for twenty four hours and try instead our Broccoli Smoothie. (Recipe below).
Why are greens so good?
So we all know green foods are good for us. But why?
Well, green foods are powerful antioxidants (particularly broccoli and spinach). These can protect the body from toxins in the environment and also in the other, non-greeny foods we eat.
Antioxidants can help neutralise the body and clear out toxins.
Green foods are intensely rich in chlorophyll, which is a green pigment that also acts as a detox agent in the body.
A good rule of thumb is that the darker the shade of green the more chlorophyll is in something. (You’re welcome).
Also, chlorophyll is a natural deodorizer which can help you with bad breath.
Green foods are also incredibly rich in minerals and some of the other essential nutrients like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins B, C, E, and K. Every one of those contributes towards a healthy and stable body.
Also, dark leafy greens are extremely rich in omega-3 acids which are intrinsic to bodily functions and lower bad cholesterol. Get some spinach or kale if that’s what you’re looking for.
It should be clear that green foods of all varieties contain nutrients that help protect the immune system and fight off viruses and bacteria.
