Over at Candid, we have a keen eye for Helsinki-based menswear brand, Frenn. Having seen the AW19 collection shown in both Paris and at Pitti Uomo in Florence, our Fashion Editor, Thomas Falkenstedt, sums up the best collection so far from the Finnish company.
Having been solid in quality from the start, this brand really has taken a leap forward. The new line combines straightforward honest Finnish design (something Finns are known for), relaxed sophistication and urban functionality with an edge.
For AW19, the collection has been divided into three different urban themes, which can be mixed and matched to create versatile combinations.
Frenn is sophistication spiced with a sporty and contemporary feel and they believe in casual formality with comfort, freedom and exceptional ease – along with clever details. You can easily switch from office gear to a night out or just to be dapper enough to raise some eyebrows on the high street.
Helsinki Moods are visible in three different themes and colour schemes. Together the themes form a harmonious collection that can be combined whichever way.
A new print collaboration with Finnish designer Iiro Ahokas has been introduced for autumn/winter 2019.
Helsinki Forest tells the story of the always-present nature in the city of Helsinki, where woods are just around the corner.
The texture of corduroy in brownish green nods to the moss in the forest. Corduroy is the key material of this theme. Vivid green, bright blue, yellow and ochre shades brighten the look. Shirt with a large-scale organic print, merino wool knitwear either in striped or unicolour versions with a contrasting stripe in the neckline, as well as bright accessories give a strong contemporary sporty feel to the theme.
Urban Architecture has been inspired by the new contemporary architecture in Helsinki – the Oodi library and Amos Rex art museum. The theme introduces bold white checks in black wool for a jacket and trousers.
The Jarmo jacket is a hybrid between a shirt and a jacket. Trousers have become slightly more tapered. An elegant technical Pentti parka keeps the wind and the rain out and away.
Shirts with small-scale black and greenish-yellow organic prints on a white background give a breath of fresh air to the otherwise dark hues of the theme.
The Blue Moment has got its inspiration from the chilly winter sunset casting a unique tone of light over the city.
The theme plays with various shades of blue accented with a dash of yellow or green.
Not everything is new, however. Some of the best designs and qualities are still there, just a bit updated from before.
The prints are their own designs, every season. Trans-seasonal classics like the soft hybrid blazers, relaxed but smart trousers and sporty but elegant parkas continue as a base for the unmistakable Frenn look, which you can get acquainted with in our SS19 review, here.
