With Pride month in fresh memory and London Pride just having finished, there have been a lot of companies cashing in on Pride collections, but then there are companies who always speak their mind about equality, human rights and universal love. One of these is Esprit and Candid’s Thomas Falkenstedt takes a look at their AW18 collection, which colourfully celebrates diversity.
Esprit is all about breaking conventions which is why they have integrated plenty of unexpected elements and loveable contradictions into their AW18 collection. Esprit’s AW18 Men’s Collection is a rich but easy mix of modern playfulness and effortless styling.
The Glencheck theme is a key highlight of the collection, showing up as unconventional blazers in boxy silhouettes paired with marching band striped bottom pieces. This season’s main material weaves a common thread throughout the line as a casual take on business-not-as-usual.
Rounding off the collection’s extroverted vibe are oversized throw-on-and-go knitwear in confident brights and slim-fit denim jackets. The hoodies and the sporty mix-and-match pieces in the collection are a nod to Esprit’s iconic athleisure trend – another key highlight for autumn 2018.
Athleisure is something many people would initially think of when thinking Esprit, but now they actually have a word for it. A company which embodies its heritage while pursuing new achievements both within the fields of fashion as well as society at large is a company one can proudly wear.
Celebrating Pride or not this summer (EuroPride will be held in Stockholm at the end of this month, check it out!), try to think of equal rights for everyone no matter who they love. Love is universal. This is a message Esprit has conveyed to us for years and something I value highly.
